Terms of Service
Last updated: 12 July 2026
These terms govern your use of CLIP (“the Service”), available at clipguide.org. By creating an account you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. What CLIP is — and what it isn't
CLIP is a revision and study-support platform for UK optometry students and pre-registration optometrists. It provides practice questions, a clinical simulator, study guides and preparation tools.
CLIP is not clinical advice, and it is not official guidance. The Service is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a substitute for guidance from the College of Optometrists, the General Optical Council, your university, or your supervisor. Content relating to the Clinical Learning in Practice (CLiP) assessments reflects our own interpretation of publicly available information and your own experience may differ. Always rely on official scheme documentation and your supervisor's direction for your training and assessments, and on your own professional judgement (under supervision) for patient care.
2. Your account
- You must provide accurate information when registering and keep your password secure.
- Accounts are personal — do not share your login or resell access.
- You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.
- You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- copy, scrape, republish or redistribute the Service's content, questions or study materials;
- attempt to bypass payment, access controls or premium restrictions;
- post unlawful, abusive or discriminatory content in community features such as chat;
- use the Service in any way that could harm it or other users.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms.
4. Subscriptions, billing and refunds
CLIP offers a free tier and a paid subscription (“CLIP Premium”), currently priced at £75 every 6 months; introductory and promotional discounts may apply at checkout. Prices include VAT where applicable and may change; we will notify you before any change affects a renewal.
- Premium subscriptions renew every 6 months until cancelled.
- 14-day cooling-off period: as a UK consumer you may cancel within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. If you have made substantial use of premium content in that period, we may deduct an amount proportionate to the service already provided, as permitted by the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
- To cancel or request a refund, email support@clipguide.org from your account email address.
- After the cooling-off period, subscriptions are non-refundable except where required by law.
5. Intellectual property
All content on the Service — questions, explanations, guides, simulators, design and code — is owned by or licensed to CLIP and protected by copyright. You get a personal, non-transferable licence to use it for your own study while you have an account. That licence does not permit copying or redistribution.
6. Availability and changes
We aim to keep the Service available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may add, change or remove features (including which features sit in the free and premium tiers) at any time. If we materially reduce what a paid subscription includes mid-term, you may contact us for a proportionate refund.
7. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, the Service is provided “as is”: we are not liable for exam or assessment outcomes, for decisions made in clinical practice, or for indirect losses. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
8. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from the settings page or by emailing support@clipguide.org. We may terminate or suspend accounts that breach these terms; if we terminate a paid account without cause, we will refund the unused portion of your subscription.
9. General
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes belong to its courts.
- We may update these terms; material changes will be notified by email or in-app notice, and continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
- If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
