Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of ClipGuide (“the Service”, “we”, “us”), available at clipguide.org. By creating an account you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal data. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

1. What ClipGuide is, and what it isn't

ClipGuide is a revision and study-support platform for UK optometry students, including student optometrists on CLiP. It provides practice questions, flashcards, clinical simulators and scenarios, a clinical library, study guides and CLiP preparation tools.

ClipGuide is not clinical advice, and it is not official guidance.The Service is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a substitute for guidance from the College of Optometrists, the General Optical Council, your university, or your supervisor. Content relating to the Clinical Learning in Practice (CLiP) assessments reflects our own interpretation of publicly available information, and your own experience may differ. Always rely on official scheme documentation and your supervisor's direction for your training and assessments, and on your own professional judgement (under supervision) for patient care.

We work to keep our content accurate and up to date, but it may contain errors or fall behind changes to guidance. If you spot something wrong, please flag the question or tell us.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.
  • You must provide accurate information when registering and keep your password secure.
  • Accounts are personal. Do not share your login or resell access.
  • You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.

3. Free access, trials and Premium

ClipGuide has a free tier with limited access and a paid subscription, “CLIP Premium”, which unlocks the full Service.

  • Free trial: every new account gets full Premium access for its first 3 months. You do not need to give payment details, and the trial does not turn into a paid subscription automatically. When it ends, your account moves to the free tier unless you choose to subscribe.
  • Launch promotion: from time to time we may make Premium free for all signed-in users for a limited period. The end date is shown on the Upgrade page, and access reverts to your own plan or trial automatically when it ends.
  • Price: CLIP Premium costs £150 per year. Introductory offers and discount codes may reduce this at checkout. Prices include VAT where applicable. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay.
  • Payment: payments are processed by Stripe on its secure checkout page, by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. We never see or store your card number.
  • Renewal: Premium renews automatically every 12 months, charged to the same payment method, until you cancel. Your renewal price is the price you signed up at unless we tell you about a change in advance (see below).
  • Cancelling: to cancel, email support@clipguide.org from your account email address. Cancelling stops future renewals, and you keep Premium until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription on its own, so please cancel first, or tell us when you delete.
  • 14-day cancellation right: as a UK consumer you may cancel within 14 days of your first purchase for a full refund. If you asked us to start your Premium access within those 14 days and then cancel, we may deduct an amount proportionate to the service already provided, as the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 allow. To cancel or request a refund, email support@clipguide.org from your account email address.
  • After the 14-day period, payments are non-refundable except where the law requires or these terms say otherwise.
  • Price changes: if we change the price of Premium, we will tell you by email before it affects your next renewal, so you can cancel first if you wish.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • copy, scrape, download in bulk, republish or redistribute the Service's content, questions or study materials;
  • attempt to bypass payment, access controls or premium restrictions, or probe the Service for weaknesses;
  • enter patient-identifiable information anywhere in the Service, including in planners, logbook and presentation tools, messages, images or feedback;
  • send unlawful, abusive, discriminatory or infringing content through messages, images or feedback;
  • use the Service in any way that could harm it or other users.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms.

5. Content you send us

You keep ownership of the messages, images, feedback, reviews and question flags you send us. You give us permission to use them to provide and improve the Service. If you leave a review through the in-app feedback prompt, you also give us permission to use it to promote ClipGuide, on the site, in emails or on social media, credited only to your initials and your year group or joining date, as described in our Privacy Policy. You can ask us to stop using your review at any time.

6. Intellectual property

All content on the Service, including questions, explanations, guides, simulators, design and code, is owned by or licensed to ClipGuide and protected by copyright. You get a personal, non-transferable licence to use it for your own study while you have an account. That licence does not permit copying or redistribution.

Some materials, such as clinical images and official documents we link to, belong to third parties and are credited to their owners. Links to other websites are provided for convenience. We are not responsible for their content.

7. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may add, change or remove features (including which features sit in the free and Premium tiers) at any time. If we materially reduce what a paid subscription includes mid-term, you may contact us for a proportionate refund.

8. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If paid digital content or services we provide are faulty, you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Subject to that, the Service is provided as a study aid: we are not liable for exam or assessment outcomes, for decisions made in clinical practice, or for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

9. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings page or by emailing support@clipguide.org. If you have a paid subscription, please cancel it as well (see section 3). We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms. If we terminate a paid account without cause, we will refund the unused portion of your subscription.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will tell you about material changes by email or in-app notice before they take effect. If you do not agree to the changes, you can stop using the Service and cancel your subscription. Continuing to use the Service after the changes take effect means you accept them.

11. General

  • These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
  • If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
  • If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
